rest stop. Maryland State Police detectives got their big break in August after investigators in Kent County, Michigan arrested 64-year-old Garry Artman for the murder of another woman there in 1996. Artman's DNA happened to be recovered from each case in both states. In Maryland, the victim was identified as Dusty Myriah Shuck, 24, of Silver City, New Mexico. She was last seen in 2006 at a New Mexico hotel, before turning up dead on the side of I-70 in New Market days later. The Medical Examiner ruled her death homicide by stabbing. With no cameras or witnesses in the area, police had little to go on besides two dragon tattoos on the victim's back, with “Gypsy Rose” written beneath them. A check of local truck stops, tattoo parlors, and missing person databases resulted in no significant leads. Two more years passed by until a search of the Combined DNA Index System (CODIS) came up with a DNA match between an unsolved 1996 murder in Michigan and another in Maryland that occurred a decade later. There still was one problem, no profile yet that matched the DNA. That was until this past August, when Michigan detectives arrested Artman in Mississippi. They got a warrant to collect his DNA which later matched the profile linked to both unsolved murders. Maryland State Police also received a DNA swab, confirming the match. It's unclear right now what, if any connection Artman had to both victims. Artman continues to be held in Michigan, where Maryland State Police detectives continue to work on their case as well. Maryland State Police charged a 64-year-old Florida man in connection with the 2006 murder of a young woman in Maryland after DNA evidence that placed him in the scene, authorities said Monday.  On May 4, 2006, a passing motorist discovered the body of Dusty Myriah, 24, of Silver City, New Mexico, near a rest stop in Frederick County, Maryland. Shuck was found without shoes or identification lying on the shoulder of eastbound Interstate 70 with only two dragon tattoos on her back and the words “Gypsy Rose” written beneath to identify her.  The Office of the Chief Medical Examiner in 2006 ruled her death a homicide by stabbing and blunt force trauma, but there was no evidence on the possible suspect until two years later, when a search of the Combined DNA Index System linked the case with unknown DNA found in a 1996 cold case in Michigan.  Without a known DNA profile match at the time, the investigation remained open.  On Aug. 17, an investigator with Maryland State Police received a phone call

from a detective with the Kent County Sheriff’s Office in Michigan, where they had identified Garry Artman of White Springs, Florida, as a suspect.  The Kent County Sheriff’s Office arrested Artman in Mississippi, and he was extradited to Michigan. Police obtained a search warrant to collect his DNA and took it to the Michigan State Police Lab.  On Aug. 18, the Michigan State Police Crime Lab confirmed Artman’s DNA matched the unknown 1996 DNA profile and the 2006 homicide’s DNA profile. Investigators from the Kent County Sheriff’s Office sent a DNA swab to Maryland State Police where it was tested by forensic analysts, confirming the match to the 2006 homicide.  Local Washington, D.C., Maryland and Virginia local news, events and information Investigators then executed a search warrant on a storage unit in Florida, believed to be owned by Artman, where they found several pieces of women’s underwear that were seized for biological evidence to determine other possible victims.  Investigators from the Maryland State Police Homicide Unit traveled to Michigan to interview and gather any additional information relevant to the investigation. State police are working with law enforcement partners in Michigan as the investigation continues. Artman is being held at the Kent County Correctional Facility in Grand Rapids, Michigan.  'Dragon Girl' Amber Luke shares more rare throwback photos taken before her shocking transformation which included tattooing her EYEBALLS and splitting her tongue in half By J.
